Damascus Middle School Celebrates National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Week
The week of February 17-24, 2018 was recognized as National FFA Week, and FFA members at DMS helped lead the celebration! Each morning, club members shared information about the FFA on the DMS News, including the many opportunities FFA members have to learn about a variety of careers and develop as leaders in their schools and communities. DMS students were challenged to participate in a contest to guess how many kernels of corn were in a jar in the cafeteria. Lane B. was the winner of the contest, but he says he didn’t just guess. “I used math. I counted the kernels around the top and the kernels stacked up the side of the jar, and then multiplied.” His math strategy worked, earning him a stuffed cow, a hat, a water bottle, and a small backpack as prizes! As a special treat for the teachers at the end of this week, members of the FFA, along with Mrs. Rhudy and her husband, prepared a delicious barbeque lunch!
