Damascus Middle School Celebrates the Spirit of the Season

Students, faculty, and staff at Damascus Middle School have definitely been celebrating the spirit of the season!  The festive atmosphere began with the holiday concert on December 4, during which band and choral students entertained the audience with sounds of the season, under the direction of band directors Mr. Bob Ballengee and Mr. Logan Childress and choral director Mrs. Sue Spirup. Each Friday in December, DMS faculty and staff were encouraged to participate in various contests, including the Crazy Christmas Socks, Tacky Christmas Jewelry, and Ugly Christmas Sweater competitions.  Coach Michael Ratliff and secretary Dana Lethcoe took the prizes for these.  Students joined the fun for the Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest on Friday, December 14, with prizes going to Rily C., Holley G., Bryce L., Alex S., Mia T., and Jackson W. for the ugliest sweaters!  The Christmas Dance, sponsored by the eighth grade, was held on Tuesday, December 18 and included a fog machine and concessions.  Students also had the opportunity to have Christmas pictures made beside the beautiful gingerbread house created by DMS’s own Teena Price and her son and in front of a Christmas background made by seventh-grade students under the guidance of art teacher Ms. Jennifer Smith.  Our SCA members each played Secret Santa and spoiled our teachers with lots of treats.  This season is a wonderful time of both giving and receiving, and DMS certainly celebrated this special time!
