Damascus Middle School Gifted Students Fly a Drone

Gifted students at Damascus Middle School received a training session on a camera drone at our meeting this week.  Students learned about the job possibilities associated with the drone, how to calibrate the device and how GPS plays a role, how to fly the drone using the control panel, things to avoid when flying, and discussed the costs and different models of drones.  Students then took turns flying the drone, taking it up to an altitude level of 160 meters, allowing them to see the land and structures surrounding DMS.  A “bird’s-eye-view” picture of the group was taken, using the drone.  This activity was coordinated by the DMS Gifted Coordinator, Rhonda Mossholder.  Special thanks to Holston High School for loaning the camera drone and to Brent Mossholder for his demonstration.
