Damascus Middle School Holds Class Night

Members of Damascus Middle School’s eighth-grade class celebrated the completion of their middle school years on Thursday, May 11.  SCA president Dylan T. welcomed his classmates, their families, faculty, staff, and other guests.  Many students were recognized for outstanding academic and athletic performance, character, leadership, and service throughout the night.  Mr. Gus Croft presented the Civitan Award for Citizenship to Cortlyn K.; Mr. Joe Preston presented the George Hall Award for highest grade point average and SOL scores to Josh H.; and Mr. David Matlock presented the Justin Foundation Horizon Award to Brady B. 

Among the class awards given were Excellence in Musical Performance to Stacy D. and Josh H., Most Improved Band Member to Will F., Outstanding Achievement in the Fine Arts to Ciara S., and Presidential Physical Fitness Awards to Nick D., KayLeigh H., Cortlyn K., Jordan L., Kenzie P., Grayson S., Dylan T., and Josh W.  Josh H. earned the highest average award for Algebra I, Spanish, World Geography, and English.  Hayley B. earned the highest average in Pre-Algebra and Bethany S. earned the highest average in Science.  Principal Scott Keith concluded the ceremony with an encouragement to these students to picture the things they want to achieve and they will achieve!  Best of luck to these students as they move forward in life, hoping they keep in mind what Dylan quoted in his welcome, “Every ending is a new beginning.”
