Damascus Middle School Holds Eighth-Grade Awards Ceremony

Members of Damascus Middle School’s eighth-grade class celebrated the completion of their middle school years on Monday, May 20, 2019 with an awards ceremony.  Many students were recognized for outstanding academic and athletic performance, character, leadership, and service throughout the program.  Mr. Gus Croft presented the Civitan Award for Citizenship to Skye H.; Mr. Joe Preston presented the George Hall Award for highest grade point average and SOL scores to Maggie M.; and Mr. David Matlock presented the Justin Foundation Horizon Award to Colt M.  We were honored to have Dr. Jim Spirup present the first annual Sue Spirup Memorial Award, in memory of his wife and our beloved chorus teacher, to Skye H.  Also, under his direction, the eighth-grade chorus performed “Hallelujah.”  The program concluded with the presentation of achievement folders to each eighth-grade student.  Best of luck to these eighth-graders as they move forward in life; the faculty and staff at Damascus Middle School will certainly miss this wonderful group of students!
