Damascus Middle School Hosts “Dinner and a Book” Event

The Damascus Middle School Library, C-TREC (Creeper Trail Ride to End Cancer), and Mrs. Blackburn’s seventh-grade English students teamed up to host a “Meet the Author” ‘Dinner and a Book’” event on Tuesday, February 28.  Throughout the week of February 27-March 3, the library held the Blue Ribbon Book Fair, where students could shop for books and novelty items, with all profits supporting the library program.  As part of the evening event for the book fair, C-TREC provided a delicious meal of hotdogs with chili, cole slaw, baked beans, apple pie with sauce, and a drink, with profits supporting research at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.  After eating, visitors could head to the library to “Meet the Author(s),” our seventh-grade students who had each just written his/her own children’s book.  This gave each of these student authors a chance to share his/her book with an audience in preparation for his/her trip to Rhea Valley on Thursday, March 2 to read to kindergarten students.  This event was a wonderful time for school and community members to support each other!
