Damascus Middle School Recognizes Excellent Attendance

Damascus Middle School is continuing to focus on improving student attendance this year to meet state accreditation guidelines.  Local businesses, including Abingdon Cinemall, Dairy Queen, and Walmart, as well as the Holston High Athletic Department, have provided support as we sought incentives to motivate our students.  The month of September was Attendance Awareness Month.  Seventh-grader Hannah M. was the winner of our September drawing for students with perfect attendance, winning a Holston High School sweatshirt.  Ms. Heaton’s homeroom was the class winner for the highest attendance during the month and received an ice cream treat.

On Monday, October 14, students gathered in the gym for our first quarter incentive prize drawings.  Of the 197 students at DMS, 146 students had missed two or fewer days during the first quarter!  These students were entered in a drawing for prizes, ranging from candy bundles, to $10 Walmart gift cards, to a middle school sports pass, to Cinemall movie tickets.  The following students were rewarded for their excellent attendance: Jesse B., Cade C., Rily C., Kaylee C., Kaylie C., Gabe F., Tristan H., Dylan J., Courtney J., Shaydun K., Cheyenne M., Hannah M., Bernadette M., Haydin N., Avril O., Maya O., Kari P., Jaylee P., Seciley Q., Lehi R., Katelyn R., Landon S., Alex S., Laken T., Daniel W., Addie W., Jayden W., and Pearl W. In addition to these rewards, our focus on improved attendance should continue to return high academic rewards!
