Damascus Middle School Seventh-Graders Practice Coding

December 5-11 was Computer Science Education Week, and students in Mrs. Blackburn’s seventh-grade English classes celebrated with an Hour of Code on Thursday, December 8.  Students used their classroom Chromebooks to access Code.org, where each student learned to code at his/her own pace.  The website gives participants a variety of fun choices with lots of levels, so it works well for students with different levels of coding knowledge.  Many of the students agreed that coding is difficult; however, they found that it became easier as they practiced.  One student stated with excitement, “Now I know what my career is going to be!”  This is the ultimate goal of the Hour of Code…to create more interest in the field of Computer Science among our students!
