Damascus Middle School Sixth-Graders Release Trout

Throughout this school year, students in Mrs. Donna Musick’s sixth-grade science class have been responsible for raising trout in their classroom as part of the Trout in the Classroom program, “an environmental education program in which students in grades k-12 raise trout from eggs to fry, monitor tank water quality, engage in stream habitat study, learn to appreciate water resources, begin to foster a conservation ethic, and grow to understand ecosystems” (http://www.troutintheclassroom.org/about).  As the school year came to a close, the students were excited to be able to release their trout in Laurel Creek at the Damascus Town Park.  Mr. Scott Keith, principal, was honored to release the first trout.  The hope of all the fishermen and fisherwomen in the sixth-grade is that one of these trout might end up on their dinner plate one day!
