Damascus Middle School Students Awarded in 4-H Dramatic Reading

Damascus Middle School 4-H members recently competed in the “Dramatic Reading” contest. Twenty-nine members from the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades performed pieces from their choice of literature.  Each participant was given 2-3 minutes to read from his or her favorite book, story, or poem.  The youth were awarded points in the following areas:  introduction of the piece, tone and emphasis, speed and rhythm, facial expression, and body language.  The purpose of the dramatic reading program is to build better oral language skills when communicating to a group.  The following students received blue ribbons:  Matthew B., Caleb C., Angel C., Tristan H., Walker H., Ashton M., Alex S., Matt S.,  Rylee S., Boone T., Taylor T., and Pearl W. in sixth-grade; Angelina A., Raelin B., James D., Claire H., Tahlor M., Maggie M., Kennedy M., Lauryn M., Lily P., Amanda S., Mia T., and Molly T. in seventh grade; and Haley M., John M., Carter N., Noah S., and Jonathen W. in eighth grade.  The blue ribbon winners may represent Damascus Middle School at the county competition in March.
