Damascus Middle School Students Present Spring Concert

On Tuesday, April 25, band and choral students from Damascus Middle School presented their spring concert at Holston High School.  Under the direction of Mr. Bob Ballengee, the sixth-grade band began the concert with “Foxwood Overture,” “Midnight Mission,” and “New Orleans Strut.”  Their performance was proof of the hard work each student has put into the practice of his/her instrument this year, moving from beginning band students to accomplished musicians!  The seventh-grade chorus composed of Liberty A., Layken B., Taylor C., Madison L., Trace A., Jordan E., Noah S., Drew S., and Jeremy T. performed next under the direction of Ms. Sue Spirup, accompanied by Dr. James Spirup.  Though small in number, the chorus was large in spirit, performing peppy renditions of “Amazing Grace,” “A Brand New Song,” and “It’s Been a Good Day,” among other songs.  The concert concluded with the combined seventh- and eighth-grade bands playing “Canticum,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” and “Secret Agent Man,” with special performances by Dylan T. and Kaiden F. on the drum set.  Mr. Ballengee is obviously very proud of his students and their many accomplishments, and he spoke highly of the support the music programs receive from not only Damascus Middle School leaders, but also Washington County Public School leaders!
