Damascus Middle School Students "Read for the Record"

On Thursday, October 22, students at Damascus Middle School participated in Jumpstart’s 10th annual Read for the Record!  This shared reading experience was begun ten years ago in order to promote early literacy, and each year, record numbers of people have participated.  Damascus Middle School was pleased to add our numbers to the record.  Miss Yolanda Minnick (and her friend George) from the Washington County Public Library read Kelly Bennett’s Not Norman: A Goldfish Story on the morning announcements.  Although it begins as a story about a young boy’s disappointment in his pet goldfish and his persuasive tactics to exchange Norman for any pet that is “not Norman,” he realizes at the end that Norman is truly the pet for him.  We appreciate Miss Yolanda’s willingness to share her time and talents (and “pet” George) with us, as we “read for the record!”
