Damascus Middle Seventh-Grade Students Attend Careers Expo

On Wednesday, September 25, Damascus Middle School seventh graders attended the United Way of Southwest Virginia's Careers Expo for Youth. The Careers Expo for Youth is one component of the United Way's Ignite Program for Youth and takes place during the month of September at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Over 4,500 seventh grade students from nineteen different school systems participate in the event over a two-day period where over seventy-five different careers are represented with hands-on activities and demonstrations. Students enjoyed participating in activities from operating a drone with the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center to climbing a utility pole with Appalachian Electric Power to providing a newscast with WCYB, gaining great exposure to regional careers that are available to them here in Southwest Virginia.
