DMS Seventh-Graders Participate in Careers Expo
On Tuesday, September 26, Damascus Middle School seventh-graders were invited to participate in the Careers Expo for Youth sponsored by the United Way of Southwest Virginia Ignite Program. The event was held at the Washington County Fairgrounds and featured over 75 interactive and hands-on activities from various employers throughout the region. Students were able to conduct experiments, practice news anchoring, work on art projects, practice CPR, fill mock prescriptions, climb a utility pole, and a host of other activities. Throughout their time at the Expo, students were encouraged to find those careers that were especially meaningful to them and imagine what it would be like to work in that specific career someday. The goal of the Expo was to to give students a better understanding of local career options and to provide them with a time for career exploration to better enhance their educational and occupational goals.
