DMS Students Learn About Limited Natural Resources
On Thursday, April 13, 2017, Mrs. Robin Holmes’s eighth-grade science and Mrs. Carolyn Doss’s World Geography classes at Damascus Middle School combined for a joint class activity to review both science and world geography concepts. This activity, based on an activity called “Know Your Resources,” brought students together to discuss the limited supply of natural resources in the world and “act out” how both developed and developing countries consume these resources. The students were randomly assigned to a developed, somewhat developed, or developing country category and got to access resources (hunt for Easter eggs) accordingly. After the hunt, students reflected on how it felt to have less time to access less resources as a developing country and what this inequality may mean for folks across the globe. This activity was planned by Emory & Henry student teacher Ms. Mary Beth Tignor.
