DMS Students Named Junior Washington County Community Scholars

On Tuesday, April 4, thirty-three students from Damascus Middle School were recognized as Junior Washington County Community Scholars for their community service, scholarship, attendance, and citizenship.  These students were as follows: Dillon B., Dustin B., Harper C., James D., Ashton K., Maggie M., Amanda S., Bailey W., Ally B., Taylor C., Karleigh D., Angel G., Katherine G., Caleb H., Audra H., Carter N., Olivia S., Noah S., Brycen S., Madeline S., Drew S., Megan T., Jonathen W., Brady B., Bryce C., Stacy D., Josh H., KayLeigh H., Cortlyn K., Ethan N., Grayson S., Dylan T., and Braxton V.  After a delicious lunch at Golden Corral, the students listened to guest speaker Mr. David Matlock, executive director of the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center.  He encouraged each of them to have compassion for others and to take action instead of waiting for someone else to do so.  Based on the qualities each of these students exhibited in order to be honored as Junior Washington County Community Scholars, they are indeed already following the advice of Mr. Matlock, in taking initiative to make a difference in the world!
