Ms. Renee Sanders is Selected as DMS Teacher of the Year

Damascus Middle School is pleased to announce that Ms. Renee Sanders, sixth-grade English teacher, has been selected as the 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year!  For Ms. Sanders, teaching is a calling, one which she felt upon her own life when she was still in middle school herself.  Growing up in Washington County, she was inspired by teachers whom she says, “loved teaching and truly cared for their students.”  She “wanted to be just like them.”  Her students would agree that she has achieved her dream, as she encourages and cares for each of them as they make their way through their first year of middle school.  Ms. Sanders taught at E.B. Stanley Middle School for five years before coming to Damascus Middle School, where she has taught Math 6 and is currently teaching Reading 6.  For Ms. Sanders, regardless of the subject matter she is responsible for teaching, her focus is providing her students with a safe place to learn.  Her goal is for her students to overcome obstacles on their way to becoming lifelong learners, a goal she has met herself as a first-generation college graduate!  Congratulations to Ms. Sanders; Damascus Middle School is proud to have her represent us as Teacher of the Year!
