In a year that has motivated educators across the world to rethink and relearn in order to provide the most effective ways of teaching our students, it has been of vital importance to have instructional leaders who help us to do so. Logan Childress, Instructional Technology Resource Teacher and Band Director at Damascus Middle School, has worked tirelessly to provide training, support, and encouragement as we worked to implement our existing technology in new ways and incorporate new technology into our teaching. In his own words describing his goal for his students, “one of the most essential lessons we can utilize throughout our lives is the ability to improvise, adapt, and overcome.” As teachers at Damascus Middle School met with difficulties due to the changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Childress was always available, showing us ways to improvise when necessary, adapt to changes, and eventually overcome the difficulties to feel a measure of success! For this reason, his colleagues at Damascus Middle School have selected him as Teacher of the Year; we couldn’t have done 2020 without his guidance and support! In addition to this school-wide honor, Childress was named the 2020-2021 Middle School Teacher of the Year!
