DMS Sixth-Grade Math is Hands-On!

For learning how to multiply fractions the students used models, which made solving word problems easier. For another activity, they worked in socially distanced small groups as they “dined out” at their chosen restaurant. The goal of each group was to order enough food and drinks from the menu to feed everyone in the group, without going over the set budget. Finally, the students faced off in “decimal wars” around the room, which filled the math classroom with a spirit of play. The students are loving the use of manipulatives and group activities, and Mrs. Childress has shown that this is possible, even with the constraints of continued adherence to COVID guidelines for social distancing and sanitizing!
