Damascus Middle School Students Attend Careers Expo

On Wednesday, September 28, Damascus Middle School seventh graders attended the United Way of Southwest Virginia's Careers Expo for Youth.The Careers Expo for Youth is one component of the United Way's Ignite Program for Youth and takes place during the month of September at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Over 4,500 seventh-grade students from 19 different school systems participate in the event over a two-day period where over 40 different careers are represented with hands-on activities and demonstrations. Students enjoyed participating in a wide variety of activities, from climbing a utility pole with Appalachian Electric Power to learning the ins and outs of driving a semi-trailer truck, and gained great exposure to regional careers that are available to them here in Southwest Virginia.
