For Read Across America each year, Mrs. Lisa Blackburn presents her seventh-grade English students with a wonderful opportunity to go beyond a celebration of reading and become a children’s book author and illustrator themselves. After looking carefully at how children’s books are constructed, Mrs. Blackburn gives each student a blank book for writing his/her own children’s book. The writing must be the student’s original creation; however, he/she may receive help with the illustrations. When finished, the students traveled to Rhea Valley Elementary School to share their books with kindergarten students!
